Background of the Study
Insurgency has significantly disrupted governance and development in many regions of Nigeria, particularly in the northeastern states. Bama Local Government Area (LGA) in Borno State, once a thriving region, has faced severe challenges due to the ongoing insurgency led by Boko Haram and other militant groups. These insurgent activities have not only led to the loss of lives and displacement of people but have also eroded the effectiveness of governance structures, undermining public administration and essential services (Mohammed & Umar, 2023). Following the recapture of territories in Bama by military forces, governance has faced numerous challenges, including the rebuilding of infrastructure, restoration of security, and the return of displaced citizens (Sulaiman & Adamu, 2024). Despite these efforts, political governance in the region has been severely hampered by the lingering effects of insurgency. This study seeks to examine how the insurgency has impacted political governance in Bama LGA, with a focus on the challenges faced post-insurgency.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The insurgency in Bama LGA has left an indelible mark on the political landscape, with governance structures weakened and essential public services disrupted. Efforts to restore political governance and rebuild local infrastructure have been complicated by security challenges, administrative bottlenecks, and a lack of resources (Yusuf & Ibrahim, 2023). This study aims to assess the extent of these challenges and the strategies employed by the local government to overcome the aftermath of insurgency and restore effective governance.

By addressing the challenges and proposing strategies for recovery, this research will contribute to the broader discourse on post-conflict governance in Nigeria.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on Bama LGA in Borno State, specifically addressing the governance challenges faced in the post-insurgency period. The research is limited to the examination of political governance and does not extend to other sectors such as healthcare or education.
1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

Insurgency: Armed rebellion against the government, often involving irregular armed groups with the aim of overthrowing or destabilizing political authority.
